　　创作背景：其实这首诗整整筹备了半个月，是钟典至今为止唯一的英文诗，写的是作者上高中后有感对强劲的竞争对手由衷的赞美，在某些地方可圈可点。后来这位对手也回赠给了钟典一首诗，叫做《Are you a idiot or a genius》。

　　Are you a man or a world?

　　I doubt if logics always work.

　　When the new age come

　　and my honor lost,

　　when my dairy kept

　　our first meet,

　　when my dream was

　　clearly realized,

　　when my mind was taken up

　　by this thouht,

　　I wondered if you were a man

　　or a world.

　　Your voice is smooth and soft,

　　Your smile is sweet like a friut,

　　Your knowledge must be your sword,

　　so your speech is more powerful than any fright.

　　how could you be a common man indeed?

　　Your happiness shines on your face then you look like a rabbit.

　　Your anger can also make yourself understood.

　　You wonder the result,you also feel proud,

关于这首诗

缘起

　　2010年的秋天，钟典带着迷茫和若隐若现的理想进入了涪陵五中高中，师从陈木森。与以往不同，他的高中同学们通过了中考的层层选拔，都显得十分强劲。由于中考的失败和迷雾中的未来，诗人此刻感到明显的恐惧。但是他此时并没有退却，在陈木森老师的热心关怀下，在全班同学的莫大鼓励下，他仍旧活跃在高中班级氛围中。

　　这首诗严格说起来是写给徐颖的。徐颖是当年涪陵第九中学中考的状元，在高中班上非常活跃。她是钟典班委工作中的合作伙伴，学习中的强劲对手。正是这样一个强有力的富有挑战性的环境和这位引入注目的对手，钟典才有感而发写下此文。面对这样的环境，诗人采用的不是逃避或者讽刺，而是由衷的赞美口吻，表达出他心中炽热的激情。

有趣的一波三折

　　这首诗是9月20日将尽未尽时写下的，然而它的筹备却整整花了半个月。有趣的是，最初诗人并不想像成诗那样由衷地赞美，而想善意地讽刺一下。最初他把这首诗命名为《Are you a boy or a girl？》，极言徐颖之强大。后来他觉得不妥，方才改为了现在这个题目。但即使到中途，他也十分愤懑地表示想写《Are you a boy or a girl？》，一气之下，就将这首诗手稿上的题目改为了《Are you a man or a ghost》。

翻译

　　更幽默的事，这首诗一直没有翻译。最初钟典想由徐颖来翻译，岂料对方没有应允这个要求，他也就放弃了翻译这篇文章的打算。实际上，任何一个接触英语超过两个月的人都能够毫不费力地读懂这篇文章，因为作者写这篇文章时也没有深究过英语。

一些评论

　　作为一个并未深究过日耳曼语言的人写作的诗歌，在文学上自然没有什么可圈可点之处。文章的韵律虽然一韵到底，读起来朗朗上口，十分流畅，但显得呆板且苍白无力。全诗用词也能简则简，十分通俗，但也少了几分韵味。

　　不过此诗最大的可圈可点之处还是在于其感情真挚，对竞争对手的赞美，对困难环境的莞尔，都是这首诗传递给我们的人生启迪，清新秀丽的诗风正适合诠释这纯真似水的年代。

徐颖的回赠

　　次日早晨，钟典将这首诗送给了徐颖，饱读诗书的她当即以类似的风格作了一首诗回赠给钟典，这者来而又往的两首诗于是在校内、网络间流传，成为学习上互相竞争互相合作的一段佳话。

　　原诗如下：

　　Are you an idiot or a genius?

　　I wonder whether you exist,

　　and whether I still be right.

　　When sunshine lights up the east side,

　　I know that's your smile.

　　When the walking wind blows me by,

　　I know that's your breath.

　　When white holy flowers come back to life,

　　I know that's your grace.

　　But who are you on earth?

　　An idiot or a genius?

　　Your worlds are the growing fire,

　　which ignites people's excitement.

　　Your mind is the sweet spring,

　　which flowers through a village green freely.

　　Your gaze is the deep sea,

　　which I always long to see inexplicably.

作者简介

　　钟典，字子佳，重庆涪陵人，1994年12月1日生于涪陵区南部乡村。1998年进入陈万宝庄园修习幼儿园内容。2001年在那里深入小学学习。2004年8月31日迁居至涪陵，并就读于涪陵区实验小学。2006年11月21日创办豪影报业集团，同期与夏淅雨、陈相燚、邓淳元、唐鉴知等人引领了六三短篇小说潮，并有《一线光明胜黑暗》等作品问世。2007年9月，进入涪陵五中初中部学习。2009年10月期间，与骆世杰共同成立爱软组织（MYAI）。2010年9月，升入涪陵五中高中，并与人品学家窦世龙交往甚密。
