The Story of Philosopy 这本书我读了很久，以前觉得哲学太过高深，怕自己看不懂。这本大众哲学让我认识到了以前的错误。从此书中收获了许多思考，不完整记录如下。
伏尔泰是个富二代，一提到他就会让人想起法国启蒙运动。
他真是个惹人喜爱的哲学家呢：
对于伏尔泰来说，懒人可不是好人哦。
All people are good except those who are idle.
one must give all the occupation one can to make life supportable in this world.
他年级越大，就越发现工作的必要性，从长远来看，工作能给人带来最大的愉悦感。
It(working) becomes in the long run the greatest pleasures, and takes the place of the illusions of life.
创造的快乐是无限的，懒惰的人不会懂得这句话。
他支持教育：
Nothing enfranchises like education.
教育是最大的解放。
我认为这里所说的教育绝对不完全是在学校学习。
学习是一辈子的事情，特别是对于我来说，毕业后的学习其实更重要。
在学校的教育难免存在上下级关系，是不能去中心化的，何谈解放？
我以前觉得哲学家是出世的，其实哲学家是最入世的。
One must live before one philosophize.
我们都无法脱离出身去生活，很多时候，遇上困难，都没有去想，其实就算很难，也并非不可改变。
当被问及姓甚名谁时，伏尔泰说：
He is one who does not carry a great name, but wins respect for the name he has.
他没有显赫的贵族名字，却以自己的名字赢得了尊重。
为什么这么可爱的人会遭到公爵的流放呢？
Telling the truth offended everybody.
说了实话就触犯了每一个人。
他是先把自己当成一个人，其次再是一个法国人。
又有谁，有这样的勇气？
他所获得的评价是令人羡慕的：
You are charming in convrsation; you know how to amuse and instruct at the same time. you are the most seductive being that I know, capable of making yourself loved by all the world when you choose. You have such graces of mind that you can offend and yet at the same time deserve the indulgence of those who knwo you.
这样的人真的近乎完美了，这样的技能不知要修炼多少个生世才能得到？
Beings without wants are also without mind.
欲望是人性，竞争是欲望的产物，竞争就是生活。
有多少人没有从恶，其实不是因为害怕良心的谴责，而是害怕警察？
Conscience is not the voice of God, but the fear of the Police; it is the deosit left in us from the stream of prohibitions poured over the growing soul by parents and teachers and press. morality must be founded not on theology but on sociology; the changing needs of society, and not any changing revelation or dogma, must determine the good.
简单与复杂，哪个更快乐？
“Are you not ashamed to be thus miserable when, not fifty yards from you, there is an old automaton who thinks of nothing and lives contended?”
一位老妇人什么都不想，也活得很快乐，你不为你的痛苦感到羞愧吗？
“You are right,”he replied,"I have said to myself a thousand times that I should be happy as my old neighbor; and yet it is a happiness which I do not desire."
和她一样无知，我也能很快乐，但那不是我想要的快乐。
无知，其实是活在痛苦中而不自知；思考，是痛苦的快乐。
幼时得知有人去世，我也能笑出来，因为太无知。有些快乐，其实是愚蠢的。
During this time not a smile escaped me without my reproaching myself for it as for a crime.
究竟有没有神，我相信是有的，但绝对不是宗教团体所宣传的那个样子。
神，甚至不需要宗教来向人传教。
伏尔泰在信中写道：
I believe in a general Providence, which has laid down from all eternity the law which governs all things, like light from the sun.
那些请求类的祷告其实都是不必要的。
true prayer lies not in asking for a violation of patural law but in the acceptance of natural law as the unchangeable will of God.
后来，伏尔泰回到了巴黎。
他的房间塞满了访客，连国王都妒忌他。
死于1778年5月30日，1791大革命胜利后，遗体前往先贤祠。
“昔日光辉的余烬穿过巴黎大街，两旁占了六十万人。
灵车上写着：他给了人类动力，他让我们准备好迎接自由。”
读到这里，我哭了。
谢谢你走在了前面，你的路不好走。但是因为有你，后人的路就好走了。
尽管你走了，你开的路却还在。
他墓碑上只一句话：
HERE LIES VOLTAIRE
伏尔泰长眠于此
伏尔泰：十八世纪法国资产阶级启蒙运动的泰斗，被誉为“法兰西思想之王”、“法兰西最优秀的诗人”、“欧洲的良心”。主张开明的君主政治，强调自由和平等。
