当地时间3月24日，被誉为“病毒猎手”的美国哥伦比亚大学公共卫生学院感染与免疫中心主任、传染病学专家利普金教授（Walter Ian Lipkin）确诊感染新冠病毒。
Dr. Ian Lipkin, the Director of the Center for Infection and Immunity, who traveled to China weeks ago to study the outbreak before going into quarantine for two weeks, said on Fox Business Network Tuesday he has tested positive for the coronavirus.
据报道，利普金教授24日在家中接受福克斯电视台的采访时透露了他的诊断结果，并发出了严厉警告。
“I would just like to say on this show tonight that this has become very personal for me too, because I have COVID as of yesterday.”
“If it can hit me, it can hit anybody,” he cautioned, saying he’s not 100 percent certain where he got it but adding that “this virus is all over the United States.”
他还说，自己并不完全确定在哪里感染上的，“病毒遍布美国”。据了解，利普金教授目前仅有发烧、咳嗽等轻症现象。
在节目中利普金提到了对血浆疗法的看法，“目前我们正在测试血浆在预防感染或感染过程中发挥怎样的作用……我们得十分谨慎。”
Lipkin spoke about blood plasma therapy, saying, “We’re going to be testing the ability of this plasma to prevent either infection or progression of an infection… We need to do that very cautiously.”
针对主持人关于药物试验的问题，利普金回答说，在试验结束之前，并不知道哪些药物是有效的。
“Until we complete those blinded trials, we won’t know in fact what’s effective.”
目前纽约市新冠肺炎确诊病例已经达到15597例。
利普金教授曾于今年一月底就新冠疫情控制专程访华，与国内专家进行交流。
