介词短语，是介词和其它代词或名词或词组搭配形成的短语。口语上简称“介短”。该短语主要是用来表示词与词， 词与句之间的关系。

词性定义

介词(Prepositions)是一种用来表示词与词, 词与句之间的关系的词。在句中不能单独作句子成分。介词后面一般有名词代词或相当于名词的其他词类，短语或从句作它的宾语。介词与它的宾语构成介词词组，在句中作状语，表语，补语，定语。

用处介绍

at (1)表示在小的范围内; (2)表示“在……附近、旁边” (3)后面跟具体时间，例如：I get up at 6：00

in (1)表示在大的范围内; (2)表示“在…范围之内”。 (3)In+the+地点，例如：In the table

on 表示毗邻，接壤

to 表示在……范围外，不强调是否接壤

He arrived at the station at ten：他十点到达了车站

He is sitting at the desk：他坐在桌子上

He arrived in Shanghai yesterday：他昨天到达上海

Jiangsu lies in the east of China：江苏位于中国的东部

Russia live on the north of China：俄罗斯在中国的北部

above 指在……上方,不强调是否垂直，与 below相对；

on表示某物体上面并与之接触。

值得指出的是：当介词短语作表语时，它可以用来表示正在进行的动作（或存在的状态），有时还能起到一定的修辞作用。著名英语专家周海中先生1981年在《介词短语的一个用法》一文中首先介绍了这一特殊用法，从而引起了人们对它的关注和研究。现分别举例说明：

1.介词after

The police are after（=are chasing） him. [警方正在追捕他。]

He is after（=is inquiring） information. [他在打听消息。]

2.介词at

He is at work. [他正在工作。]

The children are at play. [孩子们正在玩耍。]

3.介词in

They are in love. [他们在恋爱。]

The plane is in flight. [飞机正在飞行中。]

4.介词on

He is on duty. [他正在值班。]

She was on leave last week. [上周她在休假。]

5.介词under

The road is under repair（=is being repaired）. [路正在修建。]

The question is under discussion（=is being discussed）. [这个问题正在讨论中。]
