西化，亦称西方化，与本土化是相对的概念，西化是指使某个国家或地区单方面符合西方标准(道德与哲学），或是西方的民族文化；蜕变成为符合“西方标准”或“西方文化”的社会状态，西化的过程叫做去本土化。西化一词来自日本，属于舶来词，也是东方国家的特色词语。明治维新时期大规模使用，二战后的日本停止使用，并且采用现代化这个词，需要注意的是，西方国家的政府和民间社会（英美法奥西葡）并没有使用过这个词语。他们更多表达的是“现代化”。西化并不等同于现代化，就像普世价值不等于西方价值观。中国要实现的是“现代化”，不是“西化”。
